This drawing in the Connect/Disconnect series is about the tenuous connection of identity to one's self and identity within a relationship.  On the left dashed marks represent the many compromises within a relationship and on the right the signature symbolizes the reassertion of ones self identity.  The felt pad circles and thread between are a nod to the expected domesticity of the female gender.

This detail shows the use of the felt pad holding a thin thread in place to keep a connection while the signature is repeated to create a textured surface reaffirming individuality.

This detail shows the artist's signature repeated into a texture and razor cuts filled with charcoal marring the surface of the paper on the left side. On the right side there are layers of charcoal that have been used to framed a pristine white inner surface.  The layers of charcoal has been erased as much as possible then razor cuts filled with more charcoal were applied as well as hand-stitched black thread applied to create hatch marks.

This detail shows the layered charcoal surface next to a pristine white paper surface that has been hand stitched with white thread in an attempt to strengthen the surface while instead puncturing the skin of the paper. The felt pad circle in the center represents the unchanged sense of identity.

This detail shows the left panel that has a single string crocheted into a stronger textural surface.  From the crocheted panel representing a complex and strong sense of identity a new signature emerges in light tentative pencil as is moves across to the right panel.

This detail shows the light pencil line emerging from the crocheted texture become stronger and more forceful as it moves across to the right side of the drawing. The signatures are arranged in an abstracted musical staff to represent the harmony in the relationship of individuals.

This image shows Q-tips connecting opposites.  The black is the surface of the paper itself and the white is a stronger version with the black paper at it's core.  The Q-tips are an everyday material used to symbolize the connections made each day and the grey represents the compromise between the two individuals. The dashed white marks dually represent a destruction of individual identity and the creation of a new fabric that uses both black and white to create a new merged identity.

This drawing presents the tying together of two identities that are severing the individual. The center panel symbolizes the bringing together as well as presents corset imagery in squeezing out the internal identity for an external presentation of beauty and harmony.

This detail shows the textural pattern of googly eyes as a representation of society watching behavior of newly married couples and offering their judgements represented by the threads connected to the right panel.

This detail shows the threads connecting a charcoal obscured signature to the googly eye panel.  The threads tie societal expectations to the obscuring of self identity.

This detail shows a pristine white gesso circle with knots stitched through the paper's surface and flying towards the viewer. It also shows the dashed marks that cause the white circle to hover over the surface of the paper.

This detail shows a signature incised into the paper's surface with a pencil tip then revealed through the use of white charcoal on a black paper. The tip forcing an alteration into the paper that is unseen until revealed through careful observation of the surface.
